Created as an exploration of funereal customs in America throughout the decades, the National Museum of Funeral History features antique items relating to the burial of the dead. Its collection, the largest of its kind in the country, includes funeral coaches from the 1800s, hearses from the 1900s and uniquely designed coffins ranging from the ornate to the bizarre. Other displays cover topics like embalming in the Civil War era and operations within an early 20th century casket manufacturing factory. Set on the northern edge of the city, about three miles west of the Bush Intercontinental Airport, the museum is just a few miles past the Greenspoint Mall.
