The Menil Collection serves as the repository for some 15,000 works of art contained within the private collection of John and Dominique de Menil. It is best known for its significant pieces of Surrealist art, including many pieces by artists like Giorgio de Chirico and Salvador Dalí, though it also has particularly strong collections of Byzantine and Medieval art, antiquities and Tribal art. Located in the Museum District of Houston, the collection is also displayed in additional gallery spaces like the nearby Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum and the Rothko Chapel.
